What a good day it’s been.  An old friend came through town last night unexpectedly and stayed over, so we got to have waffles and coffee with him this morning.  Later we went out to cross-country ski on our gorgeous new snow, under bluebird skies.  We had homemade naan and black bean soup for supper.  We got to be on national TV– twice in one day!– and had the pleasure of reading a whole bunch of comments from people doing similar (in many cases, more impressive and inspiring) things.  Now it’s 13ºF outside, and the cats are circling for bedtime.

I first heard of you guys last night on ABC. It’s such a blessing to see people who share my attitude–I’ve been heat free for 3 years now in the relatively temperate area of Washington DC. Is there a site for tips for making being heat free as comfortable as possible?

Scott– I think you’ve found it, right here. If you come across others let me know and I’ll put a link to them! But read through our old posts on this blog and you’ll find some (weird, but maybe useful) ideas.

love your journal, been doin this a few years in ct.i always tell people that come december all the mice and other non rent paying critters move out to the neighbors houses.this year i moved my water lines up into my living area.i use a woodstove also once in a great while but find putting on a set of thermals with a sweat shirt and pants to be much easier than splitting wood.

I am so glad that we are not the only ones who use very little heat. For the last two years my husband I have kept our home at 35-55 degrees during the winter. In the summer time open windows and fans keep us some what cool. It is amazing how your body will adjust to cooler temperatures. Thanks again for letting us know that we are not the only souls out there enjoying cool homes!

Hey Amy– it’s equally good to know that WE aren’t the only ones! After reading the comments over the past couple days, I feel like we should have a support group or something!

I agree I would love to help you start something like that. Thank you for the support!
