A couple weeks ago, during the big storm, I lay awake late at night feeling the wind rattle the house and wondering whether I put enough support brackets on the new chimney. I was prepared at any moment to hear it rip off the wall and crash into a heap of bent stainless steel in the yard below.
Luckily, it didn’t. And not just luckily– also amazingly… because today I read that the wind that evening clocked an all-time local record gust of 78 mph (official measurement, at the airport). There was also a report of an unofficial measurement of 94 mph a few miles away on Cape Elizabeth.
So, I’m reassured that the chimney can withstand anything it’s likely to encounter now.
